Before Sami Aslam made 82 in his first innings, Saeed Anwar had made 74 at Lord's in 1996 and Mohammad Hafeez scored 95 at The Oval in 2006. Aslam's 82 is the fourth-highest by a Pakistan batsman in his maiden Test innings in England.

1982 Last time an opener younger than Sami Aslam, who is currently 20 years and 235 days, made a half-century in Test in England. Ravi Shastri scored 66 at The Oval on that tour, at the age of 20 years, 42 days. Sami Aslam is the fifth-youngest opener to score a half-century in England.

181 Runs added by Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali for the second wicket, the second-highest for Pakistan against England. Only the 291-run stand between Mushtaq Mohammad and Zaheer Abbas, also at Edgbaston in 1971, is higher than this.

1983 Last time Pakistan's second wicket added more than 150 runs in a Test outside of Asia (excluding Zimbabwe). Mohsin Khan and Qasim Umar added 233 at the Adelaide Oval back in December 1983. This was only the fourth 150-plus partnership for Pakistan's second wicket in Tests outside Asia (excluding Zimbabwe).

Aslam and Ali's stand is the fourth century stand for Pakistan after losing the first wicket without a run on the board.

20.67 Hafeez's average in Tests outside Asia - the lowest by a Pakistan batsman playing 25 or more innings in a top-six position. He has made just two fifty-plus scores in 32 innings outside Asia, the last of which came in 2011 against Zimbabwe. He does, however, average 50.16 in 63 innings in Asia with eight centuries and 11 fifties.
