Daniel Ricciardo: Second race in a row I've been screwed

Daniel Ricciardo was livid with Red Bull after he lost out on victory at the Monaco Grand Prix due to a calamitous pit stop.

Ricciardo looked like a man on a mission this weekend, claiming a great pole position on Saturday he said was a good way to bounce back from missing out on victory in Spain. He had lost that race when Red Bull made a strategy call which saw him drop to fourth while teammate Max Verstappen claimed a maiden win.

Once again in Monaco Ricciardo looked like he was set for a first win since Belgium 2014 when his team called him in for a switch to slicks on lap 32. However the tyres were not ready for the pit stop and the time spent waiting in the box allowed Lewis Hamilton to get ahead of Ricciardo.

Ricciardo was unable to get back past Hamilton and after the race made it clear he blamed the team.

"I don't want to even comment on the race to be honest," Ricciardo said on the podium. "Thanks to the fans, thanks for sticking it out in this weather. I guess from the outside we put on a show, shouldn't have been as exciting as it was, to be honest.

"Two weekends in a row now I've been screwed, it sucks, it hurts. But thanks to everyone for sticking out, I appreciate it."

When asked if he knew what happened, he said: "Nope. No idea. I was called into box, I didn't make the call, I got called. They should have been ready. It hurts, I don't have anything else to say to be honest."

Ricciardo was also upset with his first stop, when he came in for intermediate tyres when he had a healthy lead. That move brought Hamilton into the race in the first place and Ricciardo said Red Bull should have been focused on consolidating his lead.

"Two races in a row. Two races in a row, that's all I can say. ... We had a healthy lead and then we went to inters that effectively put us into a race we didn't need to be in to. Then I was called into the pits for slicks and the tyres weren't ready. I didn't make a late call..."
