Sebastian Vettel believes Ferrari's 2018 car is capable of taking the Italian team's first win on home turf since 2010.

After taking victory at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, Vettel goes to Monza as the favourite for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.

Since the last change of engine regulations in 2014, Monza has been a Mercedes stronghold with the German marque taking one-two victories at three of the last four races on the high-speed circuit. By contrast, Ferrari hasn't won there since Fernando Alonso narrowly beat McLaren's Jenson Button in 2010.

But this year could be different, with Ferrari holding the edge over Mercedes in terms of engine power. Vettel hopes the entire package of the SF71-H is enough to win on Sunday and he believes that could also help gaurantee the future of the race, which is currently only secure until 2019.

"I think we have a good car that seems to work everywhere," Vettel said. "I don't think the car was there right from the beginning of the season, but I think we've got it now to a point where it seems to work everywhere and we are competitive.

"So I hope it helps Monza to boost the race, I'm sure we will get a lot of support but I also hope it helps Monza stay on the calendar for a long time because I heard some rumours.

"I'm looking forward to going to Italy. Obviously I spend quite a bit of time there but racing in Italy is special for us with Ferrari. It's our home race so it should be a lot of fun."

After Max Verstappen fans have made their presence felt at the majority of European races so far this season, Vettel is looking forward to going somewhere where the dominant colour in the grandstands is red.

"If you are dressed in the right colour -- which I am -- then I think Monza is always an absolute highlight. As a racing driver I don't think it gets any better than that. Now maybe with a win here just a week before the race, maybe it does get better. I'm curious.

"But for us it's a great race. There are so many families and support from our own people there, but the main thing obviously is all the fans, the Ferrari fans. As much as I enjoyed the orange the last couple of races I hope that we will have red for a change and I'm pretty sure that we'll beat the orange."
