Alexia Putellas signs new 2-year deal with Barcelona

Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas has committed her future to Barcelona by signing a new two-year deal until 2026, the Catalan club announced on Thursday.

The agreement includes an option for an additional season, too, as Putellas, whose previous terms were due to expire next month, extends her 12-year relationship with Barça.

Putellas, 30, also previously spent a year with Barça's youth academy in 2005 before returning to form part of the first team in 2012.

Since winning her second Ballon d'Or in 2022, Putellas has missed large parts of the last two seasons through injury.

However, she returned to action from her latest injury setback in March and has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 10 goals.

In total, the attacking midfielder has made over 400 appearances for Barça, winning 20 major trophies, including eight Liga F titles and two Champions Leagues.

She has been one of the driving forces behind Barça's rise to the top of the game in recent years, with her performances helping the team win their first ever European trophy in 2021 and earning her the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022.

A third Champions League trophy could follow next weekend when Barça face Lyon, who they have lost to in two previous finals.

If Putellas and Barça can overcome the French champions, having already clinched Liga F, the Copa de la Reina and the Spanish Supercopa, they will win the quadruple for the first time ever.

Putellas was also part of the Spain squad which won last summer's World Cup and the inaugural UEFA Women's Nations League earlier this year.
