Tiger paired with Day, Homa for first two rounds at the Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods' return to Augusta National Golf Club will begin Thursday in a featured group with Jason Day and Max Homa.

Woods, 48, will be attempting to break the Masters record with his 24th consecutive made cut. He'll tee off in Thursday's first round at 1:24 p.m. ET and at 10:18 a.m. ET in the second round on Friday.

That might be a break for Woods, who struggled to walk in wet and cold conditions after making the cut at the 2023 Masters. He battled plantar fasciitis in his right foot before withdrawing prior to the weather-delayed third round resuming.

Thursday's weather forecast calls for a 95% chance of thunderstorms in the morning, followed by scattered storms in the afternoon.

Defending champion Jon Rahm is playing in another featured group with reigning U.S. Amateur champion Nick Dunlap and England's Matt Fitzpatrick. They'll tee off at 10:30 a.m. ET in the first round and 1:36 p.m. ET in the second.

Rahm, who is now playing in the LIV Golf League, will attempt to become the first back-to-back Masters winner since Woods in 2001-02. He would be the first Masters champion from LIV Golf.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is playing with Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele. They tee off at 10:42 a.m ET on Thursday and 1:48 p.m. ET on Friday.

McIlroy, the No. 2 golfer in the world, will attempt to complete the 10th career Grand Slam by winning a green jacket. He would become only the sixth player in men's golf to accomplish the feat, joining Woods, Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.

"No question, he'll do it at some point," Woods said Tuesday. "Rory's too talented, too good. He's going to be playing this event for a very long time. He'll get it done. It's just a matter of when. But, yes, I think that Rory will be a great Masters champion one day, and it could be this week. You never know."

Reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, 2023 FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland and LIV Golf League captain Cameron Smith are playing in a featured group that tees off at 10:54 a.m. ET Thursday and 2:00 p.m. ET on Friday.

The other featured group includes former Masters champion Dustin Johnson, two-time major winner Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood. That trio tees off at 2 p.m. ET Thursday and 10:54 a.m. ET Friday.
