Volkan Oezdemir calls himself the "fresh blood" in the UFC light heavyweight division and plans to carry momentum into his title fight against Daniel Cormier. (1:16)

A light heavyweight championship bout between Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir has been officially added to a UFC 220 pay-per-view event on Jan. 20 in Boston.

UFC officials announced the 205-pound title fight Wednesday. The event will take place inside TD Garden.

The news comes 10 days after Oezdemir, 28, was arrested on a felony battery charge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The charge stems from an alleged altercation at a bar in August. Oezdemir has been accused of striking another man.

Originally from Switzerland, now fighting out of South Florida, Oezdemir was released on $10,000 bond. UFC president Dana White told reporters Tuesday he was aware of the pending criminal complaint against Oezdemir, but that he would likely still receive his title shot.

Cormier (19-1) will be making his first appearance since he suffered a knockout loss to Jon Jones at UFC 214 in July.

Fighting out of San Jose, Cormier was reinstated as the UFC's official champion in September, after the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) flagged Jones for a potential doping violation. That case is still pending.

Oezdemir (15-1) has skyrocketed up the UFC's rankings with back-to-back first-round finishes over Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa.
