Honda's Marc Marquez has secured his third MotoGP world championship with three races remaining, after storming to victory at the Japanese Grand Prix.

The Spaniard entered the weekend with a 52-point advantage on Valentino Rossi and 66 ahead of compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, but with both of his Yamaha challengers crashing out in Motegi, Marquez ensured his points tally would not be overhauled.

Andrea Dovizioso finished second for Ducati with Suzuki's Maverick Vinales rounding out the podium finishers.

Australian Jack Miller -- who had only raced once since winning the Dutch Grand Prix in June -- was another casualty, crashing out just seven laps in.

Marquez, 23, is the youngest rider in history to hold three premier class world titles.
