LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Brittany Reinbolt won her second consecutive USA Bobsled women's national team trials race Saturday, making her the driver of the USA-3 sled on the national team going into this Olympic season.
Reinbolt joins USA-1 pilot Elana Meyers Taylor and USA-2 pilot Jamie Greubel Poser on the national team. Meyers Taylor and Greubel Poser both had byes onto the team following their performances last season. Meyers Taylor and Greubel Poser both drove to medals at the Sochi Olympics in 2014.
"It's a huge weight off my shoulders, but the battle isn't over because now we have to qualify three sleds for the Olympics," Reinbolt said.
Lolo Jones, the U.S. Summer and Winter Olympic veteran who was on the team that competed in the Sochi Games, teamed with Reinbolt for Saturday's win and is one of six push athletes selected for the national team.
The other push athletes are returning Olympic medalist Aja Evans, Kehri Jones, Lauren Gibbs, Maureen Ajoku and Briauna Jones.
"This is ridiculous," Meyers Taylor said, speaking of the U.S. team's depth going into the season. "This is the fastest we've ever been, from top to bottom, and it's really encouraging. To set these kinds of times with various people is really a testament to our push athletes and the hard work everyone has put in this offseason."
The U.S. men's bobsled team is expected to be announced Wednesday, one day after team-selection trials end in Lake Placid with a four-man race.
