Kerri Walsh Jennings to pair with Brooke Sweat for run at 2020 Games

Three-time beach Olympic volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings has a new partner as she tries to qualify for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.

Walsh Jennings tells The Associated Press she will pair with Rio Olympian Brooke Sweat, a defensive specialist.

Walsh Jennings, who will turn 42 shortly after the Tokyo Games, won three gold medals with Misty May-Treanor. When May-Treanor retired, Walsh Jennings paired with April Ross in Rio and earned bronze.

Sweat is a four-time defensive player of the year on the AVP tour. She qualified for the 2016 Games with Lauren Fendrick. They were eliminated in pool play after losing all three matches.

The new partners will compete together for the first time Oct. 18-21 at the p1440 tour event in Las Vegas.
