Scotland will be without scrum-half Greig Laidlaw for the autumn internationals after he broke his fibula Sunday.

Laidlaw sustained the injury in the closing stages of Clermont's win at the Ospreys at the weekend. A statement from the club says he had a scan on Monday, which revealed the break.

He avoids surgery, but now has to rest the leg for six weeks, before then returning to training. Clermont estimate him to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks.

With Scotland kicking off their three-Test autumn programme against Samoa on Nov. 11, Laidlaw will miss their end-of-year internationals and is a doubt for Clermont's European Champions Cup double-header in December.

The news also means Scotland coach Gregor Townsend will have a decision to make on captaincy as Laidlaw skippered the side in the Six Nations earlier this year.
