Racing 92 and France scrum-half Maxime Machenaud will miss the Top 14 side's Champions Cup final against Leinster and the French summer tour of New Zealand after damaging knee ligaments.

Machenaud was a temporary replacement during Racing's victory over Bordeaux on Sunday but was helped off the pitch in obvious pain with a knee injury a few minutes after coming on for Teddy Iribaren -- who could only watch from the side as he waited to return after passing a head injury assessment.

The European player of the year nominee took to social media to announce that his season was over after rupturing knee ligaments.

"Very sad to have to announce that the season is over for me, having suffered a total rupture of the cruciate ligaments, I will be out for some time," he wrote on Instagram before insisting he would fight his way back.

"I will not let go of my kid's dream for anything in the world and I will come back stronger to reach my ultimate goal in 2019."

He is also set to miss France's three Tests against New Zealand in June as Jacques Brunel pits his side against the world's best.
