Rookie hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa given Irish acid-test

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has named Brandon Paenga-Amosa and Caleb Timu to make their debuts in an Irish acid-test on Saturday night.

The Wallabies opening Test against Ireland marks an incredible rise for Paenga-Amosa who was playing in Sydney's Shute Shield this time last year, and will see him start alongside front-row veterans Sekope Kepu and Scott Sio.

Timu's rise has been somewhat stilted after he suffered a serious knee injury in his first training session for the Queensland Reds in 2016. Now, he will partner David Pocock in the backrow.

Pocock, meanwhile, will make his return to the gold jersey for the first time since December 2016, after he took a yearlong sabbatical away from Australian rugby. His combination with captain Michael Hooper will finally make a reappearance, while Izack Rodda and Adam Coleman have claimed the starting lock roles and round out the forward pack.

Playmakers Will Genia, Kurtley Beale and Bernard Foley have all secured their place in an otherwise settled starting side.

After a week of talks between Rugby Australia and New Zealand Rugby to secure the use of Pete Samu, the Crusaders lock has been named on the bench, in what could be his Wallabies debut.

Reds star Taniela Tupou has also been rewarded for his performances in Super Rugby, with the young star named on the six-two bench, alongside Tolu Latu who was a late inclusion into the squad following Jordan Uelese's knee injury last week.

Wallabies: Israel Folau; Marika Koroibete, Samu Kerevi, Kurtley Beale, Dan Haylett-Petty; Bernard Foley, Will Genia; Caleb Timu, Michael Hooper, David Pocock; Adam Coleman, Izack Rodda; Sekope Kepu, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Scott Sio. Reserves Tolu Latu, Allan Alaalatoa, Taniela Tupou, Rob Simmons, Lukhan Tui, Pete Samu, Nick Phipps, Reece Hodge.
