Scotland fly-half Finn Russell has been ruled out of Saturday's Six Nations match against France due to a head injury.
Russell had joined up with the Scotland squad despite suffering the injury while playing for French side Racing 92 at the weekend, but did not meet the requirements of a further medical assessment conducted by the Scottish Rugby Union on Tuesday.
World Rugby protocols state players must have at least six days rest before returning to play if they have suffered a head injury, which means there is not enough time for Russell to return to full fitness.
The fly-half will return to Racing 92 for further treatment.
Full-back Stuart Hogg has also been ruled out of the France match due to a shoulder injury while centre Huw Jones will miss the rest of the Six Nations after sustaining a knee ligament injury in Scotland's home defeat to Ireland.
Worcester Warriors' fly-half Duncan Weir was one of six players called up to the squad by head coach Gregor Townsend on Monday, while Glasgow Warriors' Adam Hastings could also replace Russell at No. 10.
