Om Prakash Mitharval won India's third gold at the ongoing shooting World Championships in Changwon, South Korea after shooting a score of 564 in the 50m pistol event on Tuesday.
India also won a bronze in the junior 10m air pistol mixed team event as Asian Games gold-medalist Saurabh Chaudhary teamed up with Abhidnya Patil to tally 407.3 points in the final. The other Indian pair of Anmol and Devanshi Rana finished fifth in the five-team final after scoring 324.9.
Anmol and Rana had finished second in the qualification round with a score of 765 while Chaudhary and Patil had finished fourth after shooting a tally of 761 points.
India had earlier won gold in the junior 50m men's pistol individual and team events on the opening day of the tournament. Mitharval is the first Indian to win gold in this event at the World Championships. India's only previous medalist in this event at the World Championships was Jitu Rai, who had won silver in the last edition in 2014.
Rai only managed a 17th-place finish this time with a score of 552. The 50m pistol event is no longer a part of the Olympics but continues to be a part of the Worlds.
Mitharval had impressed at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, where he won bronzes in the 10m air pistol and 50m pistol event. 23-year-old Mitharval, had also finished first in the qualification round of the 10m air pistol event at the Commonwealth Games after shooting 584 points to equal the Commonwealth Games record, which was previously held solely by India's Samaresh Jung.
Mitharval had also topped the qualification stage in the 50m pistol event at the Commonwealth Games with a score of 549 but had suffered a letdown in the last two rounds of the final after leading for most of it to finish with bronze.
