The second round of the Australian Open was a good one for the top four seeds in the men's and women's draw, all of whom advanced to the third round. The Williams sisters and Maria Sharapova booked their place in the next round as well.

Here are some notable numbers from the second round in Melbourne:

96

Defending champion Roger Federer's 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over British qualifier Dan Evans was his 96th match win at the Australian Open, moving past his 95 wins at Wimbledon for his most at a single Grand Slam. Federer has 85 victories at the US Open and 65 at the French Open.

57

Rafael Nadal's 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Australia's Matthew Ebden was his 57th career win at the Australian Open, breaking a tie with Sweden's Stefan Edberg for third-most Australian Open match victories among men in the Open Era (since 1968). Federer (96) and Djokovic (63 after he beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga today) are the only two men with more wins at the Australian Open.

13

The number of matches Nadal has won in the Australian Open second round, which is the second-best among men in the Open Era. He has never lost in the second round. Federer improved his second-round win-loss record to 19-0 on Wednesday.

There are only three other records of 13-0 or better in the second round at a single major -- Federer and Nadal are 14-0 at the French Open, while Pete Sampras went 13-0 at the US Open.

8

Second seed and 2016 champion Angelique Kerber became the eighth active woman with at least 100 Grand Slam match wins with her 6-2, 6-3 victory over Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia. Kerber's win was her ninth victory against qualifiers at Grand Slams. She has never lost to a qualifier in Melbourne.

18

The number of consecutive sets won by Serena Williams at the Australian Open, following her 6-2, 6-2 win over Canada's Eugenie Bouchard. It's Serena's ninth straight win in Melbourne, where she won the title without dropping a set in her last appearance in 2017.

Serena's best streak at the Australian Open is 20 straight sets won from the 2015 quarterfinals to the 2016 semifinals.

4

Venus Williams' 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over France's Alize Cornet made her the fourth woman to record five or more third-set bagels at Grand Slams in the Open Era, after Chris Evert (6) and joining Maria Sharapova and Monica Seles with five apiece.

13

Alexander Zverev's 7-6 (5), 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (6), 6-1 win over Jeremy Chardy was his 13th five-set match since 2015, more than any other player in that span.

7

The number of consecutive Grand Slams Bouchard has now gone without making the third round. The Canadian last made the third round of a major at the 2017 Australian Open.

6

Milos Raonic's 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 7-6 (11), 7-6 (5) win over Stan Wawrinka is the sixth Australian Open match in the Open Era to feature a tiebreaker in the first four sets. Three of these matches took place in 2016, one in 2000 and one in 1993. Two of these five, both in 2016, went to a fifth set, with Gilles Muller and Feliciano Lopez the victors.

59

The number of aces served by Croatia's Ivo Karlovic in his 3-6, 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-5, 6-7 (10-7) loss to Japan's Kei Nishikori, the second-highest ace count for the 6'11" Croat in a Grand Slam loss. Karlovic sent down 61 aces in a second-round loss at Wimbledon last year.
