Liz Cambage weighing return to WNBA in wake of Wings' loss

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In the wake of the Dallas Wings' first-round loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night, center Liz Cambage said she might be playing in the WNBA next season after all.

Cambage said the 101-83 defeat at Wells Fargo Arena will impact her decision whether or not to return to the WNBA in 2019. A week ago, Cambage said she was "ready to have next summer off" because a European contract pays more than a WNBA's and because of her personal schedule.

However, she began changing her mind after Tuesday's loss.

"I want to be here talking about a win next year," Cambage said. "I want to be here. I want a ring."

Cambage, however, did reiterate that she won't make a decision until after her season in China, when she'll assess how her body feels and determine if she can keep up with an almost year-round schedule.

Now that the WNBA season is over, she'll begin preparing to represent Australia in the FIBA World Cup, and then she'll begin her Chinese season.

But five days after she said the WNBA might not be in her future next summer, Cambage sat behind a microphone, looking and sounding distraught over her season ending, saying she "really loved her time back in the WNBA."

"Heartbreak's always made me hungrier," Cambage said. "My first taste of the playoffs and it's left a bitter taste in my mouth. I love this team. I've loved my time in Dallas. I'm heartbroken that it's come to an end.

"I'm going to miss seeing these girls every day, and that little taste, it makes me want more. It makes me want to do more. It makes me want to do better. It makes me want to be better with my team."
