Syracuse women's hoops coach Quentin Hillsman inks extension

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse has extended the contract of women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman.

The university did not reveal the length of the extension, but it comes on the heels of the most impressive season in team history.

The Orange women set school records with five wins against nationally ranked opponents, 13 conference victories and 30 overall victories. Syracuse also appeared in its first national championship game, falling to perennial power UConn in the title game.

"I'm very happy," Hillsman said Friday. "It's very rewarding, and we're going to have a chance to be pretty good next year."

Syracuse returns four starters from last year and also will have guard Jasmine Nwajei for one year. Nwajei, the leading scorer in Division I women's basketball last season at Wagner, has transferred to Syracuse but will have to sit out the 2016-17 season because of NCAA rules.
