Mercer takes advantage of The Citadel's miscues in 24-14 win
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Tee Mitchell scored two touchdowns and rushed for 88 yards and Mercer controlled all the way in a 24-14 win over The Citadel on Saturday.
CJ Leggett scored on a 1-yard run to end a five-play, 48-yard drive in the first quarter, Mitchell added rushing scores of 16 yards and 2 yards in the second and third quarters respectively and Mercer (3-3, 2-2 Southern Conference) built a 21-0 lead.
Dominique Allen's 1-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter put The Citadel (3-3, 1-2) on the board. The Bears added a field goal before Brandon Berry's 2-yard score ended the scoring.
Allen threw for 180 yards and Berry had 15 carries for 65 yards. The Citadel outgained Mercer 380 to 311, however, the Bulldogs lost three fumbles and Allen threw an interception late in the game. Mercer coughed the ball away twice on fumbles as well.
