Footman leads Alcorn State past Texas Southern 24-17

HOUSTON -- Lenorris Footman threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Alcorn State to a 24-17 win over Texas Southern on Friday night.

Footman went 14 of 25 for 241 yards with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Norlando Veals to open the scoring. Veals had six receptions for 140 yards and De'Lance Turner ran for 115 yards on 19 carries. The Braves had 485 yards of offense

P.J. Simmons scored on an 8-yard run late in the first quarter to put the Braves (3-2, 2-0 Southwest Athletic Conference) up 14-0 but Daequan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for the Tigers (0-4, 0-2).

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter and field goals in the fourth.

Isiah Thomas led the Alcorn defense, which held the Tigers to 295 yards, with 13 tackles, three for losses, and his interception was the only turnover in the game.
