Toledo dominates Akron

The Rockets put up a 48-point performance and becomes the driving force of the MAC.


TOLEDO, Ohio -- Logan Woodside tossed five touchdown passes and Toledo ran away from Akron 48-21 on Saturday.

Woodside finished 17 of 24 for 304 yards to lead the Rockets (6-1, 3-0 Mid-America Conference). He moved into second place on Toledo's all-time passing yardage list with 8,356 yards, behind Bruce Gradkowski's school-record 9,225.

Toledo's Terry Swanson rushed for 123 yards on 20 carries -- the 11th 100 yard-plus effort of his career -- and Jon'Vea Johnson caught five passes for 102 yards with two touchdowns.

Toledo took the opening possession 60 yards over seven plays, culminating with Woodside's 24-yard pass to Johnson. Woodside found Desmond Phillips on a 40-yard scoring strike later in the quarter. On Akron's next possession, Thomas Woodson was picked off by Toledo's Justin Clark at the Akron 36. Three plays later, Woodside hooked up with Danzel McKinley-Lewis for a 13-yard touchdown pass and a 21-0 lead.

In the third, Woodside connected with Johnson again for a 25-yard scoring strike, then with Dionte Johnson on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Shakif Seymour added a 15-yard scoring ramble late in the fourth.

Woodson was 18-of-33 passing for 205 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Akron (4-4, 3-1).
