      Sweet win for Jelle, Been

Jelle Vossen ensured Genk coach Mario Been was able to celebrate his 50th birthday with victory as Genk finished their Europa League Group G campaign with a 1-0 win at last-placed FC Thun.Skipper Vossen scored the only goal after 31 minutes as Thun spurned plenty of chances to take something from the game.Genk had already ensured they would finish top of the group before the trip to Switzerland and, with a trip to Jupiler Pro League leaders Standard Liege awaiting them on Sunday, Been made five changes to his starting XI.It seemed to have an unsettling effect on his side as Thun enjoyed the best chances in the first half-hour.Genk goalkeeper Kristof Van Hout tipped a Marco Schneuwly effort wide of his post on 15 minutes before Milos Krstic shot over when well placed.Nelson Ferreira attempt to lob Van Hoult went over and moments later Thun were made to pay for not converting one of their chances. That it was a clever Vossen finish that opened the scoring only served to underline their wastefulness. The Genk skipper poked past David Moser with the outside of his foot after Ayub Masika muscled his way down the left to deliver the telling cross.Thun continued to pass up good chances after half-time and when Marco Schneuwly and Krstic failed to find the target, coach Urs Fischer responded with a double change on 59 minutes.Krstic and Schneuwly's brother Christian made way with strikers Berat Sadik and Josef Martinez coming on. Three minutes later Sadik shot over from a Benjamin Luthi corner.Martinez tried his luck from 30 yards and while Van Hoult was at least worked he comfortably held on, as did Genk, to give Been a night to remember his landmark birthday by.

        Vienna see daylight after victory

Rapid Vienna boosted their hopes of making the Europa League knockout stage as they won for the first time in Group G thanks to a 2-1 success at home to FC Thun.Goals from Terrence Boyd and Branko Boskovic helped move the Austrian side a point behind second-placed Dynamo Kiev. The two teams meet in the final match in the group in Ukraine in two weeks' time.Bottom side Thun, however, have no chance of progressing.Thun briefly threatened to snatch an undeserved draw when Berat Sadik brought them level in the 61st minute, but Boskovic's winner came three minutes later and helped settle any home nerves.Rapid made the breakthrough in the 17th minute when Boyd provided a low, close-range finish to Marcel Sabitzer's ball in from the left. The hosts' lead looked comfortable throughout the rest of the first half as Thun rarely threatened. And the Austrians continued to hold the upper hand in the second half, Christopher Dibon getting a shot away only to see it blocked by defender Fulvio Sulmoni.Sabitzer then had a right-footed effort from the right tipped round a post by Guillaume Faivre.Thun equalised against the run of play in the 61st minute as Sadik bundled home Enrico Schirinzi's ball across goal, despite mishitting his finish. But Rapid were back in front three minutes later, Boskovic firing high into the net from Guido Burgstaller's cross from the right.Dominik Starkl forced Faivre into a save with his feet as Rapid looked to extend their lead, but they had their own keeper Jan Novota to thank at the death.Novota parried away a Sadik shot from inside the area to ensure his side held on to all three points.

          Yarmolenko inspires Dynamo

Ten-man Dynamo Kiev shrugged off the early dismissal of striker Dieumerci Mbokani to move closer to qualification for the Europa League knockout stages with a 2-0 win in Thun.An own goal and a second-half free-kick from Andriy Yarmolenko sealed a win which takes Dynamo four points clear in second place in Group E and within a point of leaders Genk. The Ukrainians had every reason to travel in confidence having disposed of the same opponents 3-0 in their clash in Kiev last month. But Thun clearly had other intentions and Christian Schneuwly got a shot on target in the first minute which forced alert Kiev goalkeeper Aleksandr Shovkovskiy to make his first save.In an open start Mbokani brought a save out of Guillaume Faivre at the other end but Thun came within inches of opening the scoring in the seventh minute when an effort from Berat Sadik hit the woodwork.Thun had started with confidence and their chances of claiming a vital win were boosted in the 17th minute when Mbokani was sent off for a foul on Lukas Schenkel.Sadik twice missed the target as the home side tried to make their advantage tell, but they were stunned by a major error by Schenkel in the 29th minute when he turned a harmless-looking cross from Yarmolenko into his own net.Kiev made the most of their reprieve and restricted their opponents to half-chances for the rest of the first period before almost extending their lead in the 50th minute when Yarmolenko fired wide.Sadik missed an increasingly rare chance for Thun on the hour before the dangerous Yarmolenko put the game out of the home side's reach in the 69th minute when he cut a free-kick past Faivre.

            Kiev secure first win

Dynamo Kiev finally recorded their first win in Europa League Group G with a 3-0 success against Swiss side Thun. The Ukrainians were the top seeds in the draw but were in fourth place going into Thursday's game after taking just one point from matches against Genk and Rapid Vienna. But Andriy Yarmolenko's stunning first-half strike set them on their way and Dieumerci Mbokani and Oleg Gusev made the game safe in the second period.Jeremain Lens shot wide before Yarmolenko sounded the first serious warning to Thun with a left-foot shot against the crossbar from 25 yards.Yevgen Makarenko was off target from distance and Younes Belhanda sent a shot over before firing a free-kick into the wall. The inevitable breakthrough arrived, though, when Danilo Silva teed up Yarmolenko 25 yards out and he tricked his way past Sekou Sanogo before firing powerfully past keeper Guillaume Faivre with his left foot.Thun finally responded but Dennis Hediger's long-range attempt did not threaten the goal and they remained behind at the break.Thomas Reinmann blocked Mbokani's effort and Yarmolenko drew a point-blank save from Faivre as Thun tried to keep themselves in the game. But Mbokani was not to be denied and headed in Danilo Silva's cross at the near post in the 59th minute to double Dynamo's advantage. They quickly went in search of a third but Lukman Haruna shot wide and Lens missed two chances.Thun's Christian Scheuwly could not make the most of a free-kick chance and sent another effort wide before the hosts scored their third in the 78th minute.Belhanda broke following a Thun free-kick and Serhiy Sydorchuk squared the ball from the left of the penalty area for Gusev to slot home.Mbokani saw a free-kick saved and then headed wide before Faivre brilliantly saved Belhanda's free-kick to keep the scoreline relatively respectable.

              Genk see off Thun threat

Genk recorded their second successive win in Europa League Group G as two second-half goals sunk Thun 2-1.Julien Gorius and Jelle Vossen struck either side of the hour mark, and although Thun scored late on through Josef Martinez, there was no way back. The Belgian side lead the group by three points, with Thun second on three points after Rapid Vienna and Dynamo Kiev drew in the night's other game in the pool.Fabien Camus' early free-kick for Genk was saved before Martinez threatened for the Swiss side but found home goalkeeper Laszlo Koteles equal to the task.Koteles' opposite number Guillaume Faivre made his second save to keep out Benji de Ceulaer's blast before Vossen headed Camus' corner wide.Martinez shot wide but Genk were soon back on the attack, Faivre tipping a Camus drive round the post and Bennard Kumordzi off target from the resulting corner. It took a good save from Koteles to keep them on terms at the interval, though, the Hungarian tipping Martinez's close-range header behind for a corner.Kara Mbodji's header early in the second half was saved by Faivre but the opener was not long in coming for Genk.In the 55th minute, Camus teed up Gorius 20 yards out and the midfielder fired the ball into the far top corner.Vossen wasted little time in making it 2-0 in the 63rd minute, sweeping home Anele Ngcongca's cross from six yards.Buffel's curler was saved by Faivre but Thun had not given up hope and substitute Christian Schneuwly's left-foot drive forced a superb save from Koteles. They got one goal back in injury time when Benjamin Luthi cut the ball back for Martinez to fire home, but the hosts held on.

                Thun ease past Vienna

FC Thun opened their Europa League Group G campaign with a comfortable 1-0 win over Rapid Vienna.Christian Schneuwly scored the only goal in the first half and, despite a minor fightback from the visitors late on, Thun eased to an opening victory of the campaign.Rapid's Marcel Sabitzer blazed an early effort over the bar before Marco Schneuwly had the first chance of merit at the other end but he could only fire wide from the edge of the box.Brother Christian Schneuwly then put his effort over the bar for the Swiss as the chances came thick and fast in a frantic opening 10 minutes but neither side could find the target. In the 19th minute Marco Schneuwly brought a brilliant save from Rapid goalkeeper Jan Novota and just moments later fired over the bar as the home side applied the pressure.Novota had to be at his best again to deny Andreas Wittwer in the 33rd minute and two minutes later Thun had the lead their dominance deserved.Luca Zuffi provided the pass from the left and Christian Schneuwly was on hand to fire home low from 12 yards. The Schneuwly brothers were running the show and Marco guided a header over the bar after the break as Thun continued to torment their opponents.Sabitzer provided some relief for the Austrians as he fired a shot from distance wide but Enrico Schirinzi and Wittwer both brought saves from Novota.Guido Burgstaller forced the first real save from Guillaume Faivre in the 69th minute and that was followed by an effort from Thanos Petsos as the visitors pressed for an equaliser.Faivre made two further stops from Lukas Grozurek in the last 10 minutes but Thun held out for a deserved win.
