Match Commentary
120' And what a shame to see the Irish out after an outstanding World Cup. They outplayed Spain for much of the game and had a fantastic World Cup but took two superb penalties and three very poor ones. They are unbeaten but out, but they have been one of the teams of the World Cup and have provided many of the players of the tournament so far - Given, Holland, Duff, Keane and Quinn, who bows out after another great performance |
120' Spain survive somehow - excellent for 60 minutes, appalling for 60 and the perspirational Camacho gets away with his dreadful substituions. Mendieta, after a terrible season, a deserving hero for them |
120' Gaizka Mendieta... scores! Spain are through! Very calm penalty from Mendieta and the Irish go out and they are so unfortunate to do so. |
