County rely on hero Carroll again

Notts County extended their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions as goalkeeper Roy Carroll's penalty save ensured a 1-0 home win against Gillingham.Shaun Harrad pounced from close range to give the Magpies the lead, latching on to Jake Cassidy's flick-on to head past Stephen Bywater 10 minutes before half-time.Doug Loft almost equalised for Gillingham right on the stroke of half-time with a fine 25-yard strike, which cannoned off the crossbar.The Gills offered much more of a consistent threat after the restart and Cody McDonald saw a shot hacked off the goalline by Notts defender Louis Laing.The visitors' desire for an equaliser opened up the game, which certainly benefitted Shaun Derry's side on the counter-attack.Gary Jones went close with a thunderous strike from outside the box, as did Garry Thompson, who had an excellent game on the right wing.The Gills pushed right to the death for an equaliser and were denied 10 minutes from time by Carroll, who saved Luke Norris' penalty after Bradley Dack had been fouled by Laing.
