Tubbs spoils Hatters' party
Luton's first League Two match since 2009 ended in disappointment as Matt Tubbs' goal ensured they went down to a 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon. The visitors took the lead in the 41st minute when Adebayo Akinfenwa flicked on and Tubbs took a touch before lethally rifling past Mark Tyler on the run.Luke Guttridge had come closest for Hatters in the first half but he was denied from close range by an excellent James Shea save.In the second period, Akinfenwa should have made it 2-0 in the early moments as he met George Francomb's delightful free-kick at full stretch, but could only nod wide.Guttridge sent a header wide for the Hatters at the back post, before Mark Cullen came within inches of an equaliser as his low shot from 20 yards shaved the base of the woodwork.Tubbs was then clean through once more, only to be denied by Tyler this time, as was Callum Kennedy after bursting through on goal.Luton huffed and puffed in the closing stages, but despite efforts from Alex Wall and Luke Wilkinson, never really looked like drawling level.
