McCartan at the double for Stanley
Shay McCartan scored twice as Accrington beat struggling Hartlepool 3-1 to return to winning ways after two defeats.Stanley took the lead after 19 minutes through McCartan, who was making his first start of the season. He got the ball and weaved his way past the Pools defence to find the top corner of the net for his first league goal of the campaign.Hartlepool equalised when a Ryan Brobbel free-kick from the left after 42 minutes found the head of Matthew Bates who flicked the ball home. However, the Reds were back in front before the half-time whistle when Rob Atkinson headed home John O'Sullivan's corner.Substitute Matt Crooks skied a gilt-edge chance for Pools when one-on-one with goalkeeper Jesse Joronen and McCartan sealed the victory 12 minutes from time, when he tapped the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble. The only disappointment of the evening for Stanley was an attendance of just 947.
