Storey stuns Brewers

Leaders Burton slumped to a second 1-0 defeat in four days as Miles Storey boosted Newport's play-off hopes with the only goal at the Pirelli Stadium. The on-loan striker struck just before the hour mark as the hosts failed to bounce back from a midweek defeat at Accrington.Newport goalkeeper Joe Day was tested by shots from Lucas Akins and Adam McGurk during a flurry of early Burton pressure.Akins failed to make the most of a chance from 12 yards and there was more relief for the visitors when McGurk hit a post with a 10-yard shot in the 35th minute.Yet it was Exiles who almost went in front with their first serious attempt on goal four minutes before the break, with Burton keeper John McLaughlin needing to make a fine save to keep out a Mark Byrne volley. The visitors continued their improvement and took the lead when Storey lashed in a right-foot volley from the angle of the six-yard box.McGurk went close with a 30-yard free-kick as Burton chased in vain for the equaliser, but the Brewers retained their three-point lead at the top thanks to Shrewsbury's defeat against Northampton.
