FC Augsburg 3-0 SC Paderborn 07
Tobias Werner became Augsburg's outright record Bundesliga goalscorer with a brace as the Bavarians saw off Paderborn 3-0 on Saturday.Werner beat former team-mate and best friend Lukas Kruse in the Paderborn goal twice as Augsburg moved above their opponents in the Bundesliga table on goal difference.Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker ensured that would be the case with the third goal also enough to move Augsburg above Mainz into seventh place in the standings going into the international break.Werner said before the game that he would show no mercy to one of his best friends Kruse and he kept that promise when the occasion presented itself to put Augsburg in front in the seventh minute.Halil Altintop picked up a ball given away by Marvin Bakalorz and provided his strike partner with the chance to beat Kruse in a one-on-one situation with a well-placed goal. That was Werner's 18th Bundesliga goal and moved him one clear of the club record he shared with Sascha Molders. However, Augsburg nearly lost their lead and were fortunate that Rahman Baba was well placed to clear Christian Strohdiek's header off the goal line as the visitors nearly levelled against the run of play.A second goal from Werner early in the second half saw Augsburg's superiority reflected also in the scoreline, and settled any nerves they may have had.Paul Verhaegh sent in a cross which Werner rose to meet, beating Kruse once again.Paderborn did not lie down after falling two behind, producing their usual brand of attacking football to ensure Augsburg could never really be comfortable.Moritz Stoppelkamp and Patrick Ziegler both wasted good chances to bring Andre Breitenreiter's men back into the game before Callsen-Bracker put the result beyond doubt midway through the second half.Werner was the provider this time with a free-kick which Callsen-Bracker headed in to seal Augsburg's fourth successive home win.ends
