Tranmere 1 Cambridge 1
Michael Nelson's 89th-minute header denied Tranmere a third win in seven days as they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Cambridge.Rovers looked to be on course for a win which would almost certainly ensure they spent Christmas outside of the relegation zone when substitute Cole Stockton struck with 16 minutes to go.Robbie Simpson was dismissed moments later but his team-mates rallied and Nelson nodded home in the penultimate minute to ensure a share of the spoils.Nelson headed an early corner wide for the best chance in a dour first half while, at the other end, Danny Holmes' free-kick was pushed over the top by Chris Dunn. There were six minutes of stoppage time due to Michael Ihiekwe's injury and during that period Simpson drove a deflected effort just past a post as the half finished goalless.Kwesi Appiah tested Rovers keeper Owain Fon Williams and drove another effort wide at the start of the second half.Visiting boss Richard Money made two changes before the hour mark and one of his substitutes, Jordan Chiedozie, shaped a shot just beyond the post with his first involvement. The chances were starting to come and Shamir Fenelon broke behind Cambridge's back line only to hit Dunn's leg with his try.Fon Williams was then palmed a fee-kick from substitute Sullay Kaikai around the woodwork, but it was one of Tranmere's own replacements who would finally find a way through.Liam Ridehalgh made inroads down the left flank and his ball across the box was turned into the corner by Stockton.Things went from bad to worse for Money's men two minutes later as Simpson fouled Steve Jennings to earn his second yellow card of the game.Fenelon fired a good chance wide to add a second and Nelson made him pay by stooping to head home Kaikai's late corner. Even then Stockton could have won it in second-half stoppage time but blazed over in the dying moments.
