Shrimps denied by Stanley
Morecambe's miserable record against Accrington continued as they drew 1-1 with a Stanley side that played more than half of the match with 10 men.The Shrimps have now never beaten Stanley in 16 attempts and will be kicking themselves for missing out on this occasion as they failed to make the most of their man advantage after Terry Gornell was sent off four minutes before the break. It all looked good for the home side when Kevin Ellison gave them the lead in the 25th minute. Jamie Devitt's corner was met by Ryan Edwards and his header towards goal was diverted past Scott Davies from close range. The lead lasted just three minutes however when Stanley scored a superb equaliser through defender Lloyd Jones. The Liverpool loan defender collected the loose ball 30 yards from goal and sent over a cross which curled into the top corner of Danny Ward's goal. The game then boiled over with Stanley manager John Coleman sent to the stands along with Morecambe goalkeeping coach Lee Jones for an altercation on the sidelines. From there Jones was denied a second by an excellent save from Ward and Stanley looked the better side until Gornell was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Laurence Wilson. The home side started the second half well and were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute when Matty Crooks brought down Ellison but Wilson blazed the spot kick well over.Despite having 10 Stanley continued to look sharp up front and were denied a second themselves when Ryan Edwards produced a match saving block from Josh Windass's close range after good work from Piero Mingoia.
