Russell settles seven-goal thriller
Iain Russell netted deep into stoppage time as 10-man Queen of the South edged a thriller with Raith 4-3.It took Queens just seven minutes to hit the front, John Baird tapping the ball home after pouncing on a mistake by Raith goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw.Gavin Reilly doubled the Doonhamers' lead five minutes into the second half when he finished from close range after good work by Daniel Carmichael.Mark Stewart was introduced by Raith boss Grant Murray and the change paid immediate dividends as the forward got on the end of Liam Fox's header to score in the 59th minute.Christian Nade equalised three minutes later and the momentum was well and truly with Rovers when Kevin Holt was sent off in the 73rd minute for a high challenge on Jason Thomson.Substitute Derek Lyle stunned the hosts by heading Queens back in front within two minutes, only for Stewart to convert Martin Scott's cutback after 78 minutes to seemingly rescue a point for Raith. But Russell fired past Laidlaw in the 94th minute to give Queen of the South the win they needed to leapfrog Raith into third.
