Heed head through
South Africa international Matty Pattison was among the scorers as Gateshead progressed into the FA Cup third round for the first time in 60 years with a 2-0 win over Warrington Town.Pattison swept home Rob Ramshaw's cross after just eight minutes and the Heed wrapped up the win when substitute Danny Wright scored in added time as Warrington, the lowest-ranked team left in the second round, pressed for an equaliser. The opening goal came after John Oster played in Ramshaw, who shrugged off the challenge of Craig Robinson to break away down the right. His cross was met sweetly on the volley by Pattison, who has five caps for Bafana Bafana, for his third goal in two games. The pressure from the hosts continued as Alex Rodman forced Yellows keeper Karl Wills to save down to his left while Warrington's first opportunity came on 20 minutes, with Lee Gaskell's overhead kick going wide from a Lewis Field cross. The visitors, three divisions and 79 places below Gateshead, improved after the break but Pattison nearly got a second on the hour mark when his header hit a post.Warrington's best chance to earn a replay fell to Scott Metcalfe, but his 20-yard effort bounced just wide of Adam Bartlett's post .And Wright capitalised on Wills' error on 91 minutes to tap into an empty net and seal the win.
