Sutherland brace bags Elgin win

Shane Sutherland scored twice to lead Elgin to a 2-1 victory over Berwick at Borough Briggs - and dent the visitors' play-off hopes in the process.Elgin started brightly and Berwick goalkeeper William Bald had to be sharp early on to prevent Archie MacPhee from giving City a third-minute lead. But the hosts did go ahead in the eighth minute when Craig Gunn played in Sutherland and he made no mistake, firing into the bottom corner past Bald.Andrew Russell brought a save out of Stewart Black with Rangers' first shot on goal in the 24th minute and just five minutes later they could have been level but Paul Willis saw his header from a corner come back off a post.Berwick did get on level terms in the 67th minute when Jamie Duff was penalised for handball in the box and Willis stepped up to slot home the penalty. However, parity was short-lived as Sutherland got on the end of Dennis Wyness' searching ball to head home the 72nd-minute winner with his fourth goal in four games.
