Edinson Cavani nets Coupe de France winner as PSG secure domestic Treble
Paris Saint-Germain made history by beating Auxerre 1-0 to win the Coupe de France on Saturday.
Thiago Motta hit a post in a goalless first half before Edinson Cavani broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, heading in Gregory van der Wiel's right-wing cross.
It followed PSG's successes in retaining the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de la Ligue and the preseason Trophee des Champions, making them the first team ever to win all four trophies in the same season.
Auxerre were first to threaten, Frederic Sammaritano beating Blaise Matuidi and forcing a good low save from Nicolas Douchez, but it was an isolated threat from the Ligue 2 side.
Cavani volleyed inches over after a good run and cross from Lucas Moura and Donovan Leon saved well after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was picked out by Thiago Motta and fired goalwards.
Motta and Ibrahimovic linked up once more, but again the Sweden striker was denied by Leon.
Van der Wiel served notice of his threat on the overlap when he crossed to Motta 25 yards out and the Italian crashed a superb shot against the right-hand upright as half-time arrived with no score.
Leon saved Matuidi's header and had to be at his best once more when Cavani met Maxwell's delivery with a powerful header.
But the impressive keeper was finally beaten 20 minutes after the interval when David Luiz sent Van der Wiel racing down the flank and the Dutchman crossed for Cavani to head in via the crossbar.
Auxerre had struggled to make their presence felt in attack but had one late chance to snatch an unlikely equaliser, Livio Nabab teeing up Jamel Ait-Ben-Idir, but his low shot was turned around the post by Douchez and it was PSG who lifted the trophy.
