Burnley 2-0 Bolton Wanderers
Andre Gray's first double in Burnley colours saw the hosts run out 2-0 winners at Turf Moor and send Bolton to the foot of the Sky Bet Championship table. After a scoreless first half striker Gray - who is believed to have cost Burnley a club record £6million - struck twice to lift Burnley up one place to fifth. As for Bolton, they have not won in five games and prop up the Championship table.Bolton started the game brighter as a Neil Danns strike from the edge of the area was tipped over the bar by Tom Heaton.Wellington Silva looked lively on the left-hand side and had half a chance to score in the sixth minute as a Liam Feeney set piece was cleared by the Burnley defence fell to his feet, but his volley spun wildly over the bar.Burnley then crept back into the game and could have been in front in the 20th minute.A Ben Mee clearance went right over the midfield to Gray who took the ball down well before driving into the Bolton penalty area, but he could only drag his shot across the face of the goal. Both sides then carved out two clear chances apiece before the break as Heaton had to deny Feeney and Dorian Dervite in quick succession before David Wheater cleared a Scott Arfield shot off the line. The second half got off to a much slower pace, but despite that, the game had its first goal nine minutes after the restart.Sam Vokes bundled his way past Danns and slipped a delicate ball through to Gray. His shot was parried by Ben Amos, as was Arfield's rebound, but Gray was there to tap home the next rebound from close range and give the home side the lead.Bolton had the chance to equalise on the hour mark, as Jose Manuel Casado's ball from deep picked out Feeney at the back post, but the winger could only fire into the side netting from close range. The Wanderers' profligacy was punished shortly after when Arfield ran unopposed from his own half before slipping a cute ball into the feet of Gray, who fired home from inside the 18 yard box.It could have been worse for Bolton on 77 minutes as Gray nearly sealed his hat-trick. Vokes dinked the ball in to the feet of the striker, who was twice denied by Amos inside the six yard box.The last two chances of the game fell to Bolton as a Wheater header was cleared off the line by Tendayi Darikwa before sub Emile Heskey's effort fell straight into the hands of Heaton, sealing another disappointing day for the Trotters.ends
