Burnley 3-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Andre Gray scored on his home debut as Burnley fought back to win 3-1 against Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor.David Jones gave the Clarets an early advantage but Atdhe Nuhiu drew the Owls level, before Burnley substitute Matthew Taylor and Gray's late strike sealed their third successive win.Sean Dyche handed Burnley's record signing Gray his first Turf Moor appearance while Carlos Carvalhal made seven changes from the side that lost to Middlesbrough before the international break and gave debuts to Barry Bannan, Fernando Forestieri and Daniel Pudil.Jones drew a foul from Sam Hutchinson in a dangerous position and made the Yorkshire side pay by opening the scoring with a delightful seventh-minute free-kick which curled over the Wednesday wall with Joe Wildsmith well beaten. But the Owls drew level when Pudil found space on the left and delivered a pinpoint 20th-minute cross for Nuhiu who climbed above Ben Mee to head Wednesday level. With the away side in the ascendancy, Ross Wallace's right-wing cross was met by Forestieri and required Michael Keane to make a crucial 27th-minute header to divert the effort wide.Chaos reigned in a crowded Wednesday box when Scott Arfield's 29th-minute shot fell to Keane, who in turn slotted in George Boyd before the ball went out of play. The Owls could have taken a 32nd-minute lead, but Bannan's ambitious volley from Kieran Lee's cross sailed harmlessly over.Moments later, Sam Vokes ran at the Wednesday defence and slipped in Gray, only for Glenn Loovens to make a magnificent last-ditch challenge to deny the new Burnley man.Gray was then found by Boyd but his 42nd-minute effort was deflected just wide by Pudil, with the resulting corner evading all except Keane at the back post, who fired over from close range. After the break, Forestieri tried his luck with a 51st-minute effort from just outside the box that sailed just over Tom Heaton's goal, while Bannan headed off-target from Tom Palmer's 59th-minute cross.Forestieri drove at the Burnley rearguard shortly before the hour with a diminutive run and found Nuhiu who eventually composed himself only to fire straight at Heaton.Gray was put through on goal on the hour by Michael Kightly but Wildsmith was quick off his line to smother the effort, before Boyd's powerful 68th-minute shot deflected off Loovens and struck Wildsmith before being cleared. And the home side went ahead after Gray outfoxed Loovens on the right and sent in a 78th-minute cross for substitute Taylor who volleyed home emphatically.Gray sealed the win in stoppage time after robbing Liam Palmer of possession and cutting inside to finish confidently past Wildsmith.
