Blackburn Rovers 3-2 Milton Keynes Dons

Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert lavished praise on his 'world-class' midfielder Jordi Gomez, who struck a sensational injury time free-kick to defeat MK Dons 3-2 in a thrilling Sky Bet Championship encounter. The first half gave no clues about just how the game would burst into life, though the visitors would have been happy as they took the lead 36 minutes in through Samir Carruthers' first of the season. But the pendulum swung both ways in the second half. Gomez got his first of the afternoon with a clever 53rd-minute header before Elliott Bennett's first for Rovers 19 minutes from the end completed the turnaround.MK Dons looked to have snatched a point four minutes from the end through Alex Revell's tap-in but Gomez secured Blackburn's second straight home league win with a sumptuous 30-yard free-kick.Lambert was understandably delighted with the Spaniard and likened his effort to that of West Ham's Dimitri Payet in the two sides' recent FA Cup clash. He said: ``Oh for goodness sake, it was world-class. I mean as good as Payet's was here the other week, that was up there with it. That was an absolute, genuine world-class free-kick.``(Jordi) Gomez as I said before, has been terrific. Jordi plays the game as if it's really natural to him - all top players do that.``He's technically excellent on the ball. Even his first goal was a brilliant header. The second goal was genuine world class. We're thankful that Sunderland have let him come (on loan).''The win - Blackburn's first ever over MK Dons - was well-timed given they have slipped precariously close to the bottom three. But after seeing his side win for the second time in three Championship outings, Lambert felt his side were good value for the win following a tactical change at half-time which significantly improved his side.``Delighted obviously with the win,'' he said. ``First half, we were nowhere near it. I expect better and demand better. Second half, yes.``I know how players react and how they think and sometimes you can see what is going to happen but your legs don't carry you because you feel tired from the game. It wasn't until the second half when we got them in, changed the system, got more bodies around the ball and started to dominate the middle of the pitch.``We caused them problems but as I said before, this league is really tough to get wins. Over the piece, I think we deserved the win.''It was a poor day for MK Dons, who now find themselves closer to the bottom three following Rotherham's win over Brentford. They have now picked up just one league win in seven and with one win in 16, their dreadful away form in the league continues.Manager Karl Robinson blamed 'schoolboy' defending for this 'gut-wrenching' defeat. He said: ``I thought we were excellent in our performance levels. We showed we move the ball really well but we work hard as well in and out of possession.``Today what's cost us is schoolboy-error defending from a set-piece and they need to eradicate that themselves and need to learn their lessons.``It's gut-wrenching as a manager when we're sat here with nothing. I think we've been robbed here today, and that's not being disrespectful to Blackburn Rovers. Everybody knows the respect I have for this football club, but I'm gutted.''ends
