Cambridge hammer Morecambe 7-0 for biggest Football League win
Cambridge United secured their biggest ever Football League win on Tuesday, thrashing Morecambe 7-0.The U's were 5-0 up by half-time and went on to beat a 6-0 scoreline achieved twice, against Darlington in 1971 and Hartlepool in 1989.Luke Berry gave them the perfect start by converting a sixth-minute penalty after Harrison Dunk was felled by Aaron McGowan.Dunk then scored on 17 minutes, seeing an effort take a wicked deflection and loop over Kieran O'Hara and into the far corner, and made it 3-0 nine minutes later with a back-post header from Darnell Furlong's excellent cross from the right.Ben Williamson grabbed a fourth on 29 minutes, converting Zeli Ismail's pass from the byline from close range, and defender Mark Roberts added to the score in stoppage time at the end of the half after Berry's header had been saved by O'Hara.Ismail lashed the sixth from the edge of the box 14 minutes into the second half, firing home from outside the box, and in stoppage time Berry slotted home his second penalty to seal the rout.
