Dagenham and Redbridge boost survival hopes with Morecambe win
Dagenham and Redbridge gave themselves a glimmer of hope in their fight to avoid dropping out of the Football League with a 2-1 win over Morecambe.Rock-bottom Dagenham remain 11 points adrift of safety in Sky Bet League Two following the win, but they still have a game in hand on the teams immediately above them and will hope to build on this result. The hosts took the lead in bizarre circumstances in the eighth minute with skipper Joss Labadie's 25-yard shot hitting a divot before looping into the net.Daggers were fortunate not to see Dom Hyam concede a penalty for handball in the 17th minute, with Mark Cousins stopping Paul Mullin from close range seconds later. The league's bottom side doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Jamie Cureton rounded Barry Roche before scoring after good work from Labadie.Morecambe almost pulled one back in the 71st minute when Kevin Ellison headed a Jamie Devitt cross against the woodwork. But they did find the net in the 77th minute through Tom Barkhuizen after comical defending from Hyam.Daggers, though, held on to win and close to within 11 points of safety after Stevenage could only draw with Yeovil.
