Matt Taylor double earns Bristol Rovers only second home league win of season

Two second-half goals from Matt Taylor gave Bristol Rovers a 2-0 League Two victory over Carlisle United at the Memorial Stadium. The striker broke the deadlock after 66 minutes with a close-range shot at the far post from a Chris Lines cross.Taylor doubled the advantage after 87 minutes with a low left-footed shot from the corner of the box, which gathered pace off the saturated surface. It was only Rovers' second home league victory of the season but they fully deserved the points against a Carlisle side who rarely threatened. The nearest the visitors came to a goal was after 62 minutes when Mark Ellis deflected a David Atkinson free-kick narrowly wide.Rovers started brightly and should have been ahead after four minutes when Stuart Sinclair's chip set up a great chance for Taylor, whose close-range shot was saved by Mark Gillespie. The Carlisle goalkeeper was in action again moments later, beating away an angled drive from Jermaine Easter. The visitors took time to get into the game and failed to force a testing save from Lee Nicholls.
