Gwion Edwards at the double as Crawley end winless run against Newport
Gwion Edwards hit a brace to help Crawley beat Newport 3-0 at Rodney Parade.Edwards struck two sensational strikes in the first half before setting up a third to hand the Reds their first win in six games and lift them out of the League Two drop zone.In a first period bereft of chances, a moment of brilliance broke the deadlock courtesy of Edwards' long-distance effort after 36 minutes. The winger darted in from the left-flank, beating County defender Seth Twumasi to thump home on his right foot from 25 yards.Former Swansea academy midfielder Edwards then repeated the feat three minutes before the break. He was afforded too much time on the edge of the Exiles' box and arrowed past a helpless Joe Day for a second time.Edwards turned provider for Crawley's third, crossing for striker Matt Harrold to head home unchallenged in the 61st minute.County strove in vain to muster a reply but it was a night to forget for Terry Butcher's men.
