Historic success for Shrimps

Morecambe recorded their first ever Football League victory over Lancashire rivals Accrington with a 1-0 win at the Globe Arena.Aaron Wildig was the Shrimps' hero with a 13th-minute strike to give his side a first win over Stanley at the 17th attempt.Stanley started the game the better with Josh Windass forcing an excellent save from Roche in only the second minute but it was man of the match Wildig who claimed the vital goal. The impressive midfielder produced a moment of class to curl home Paul Mullin's lay-off from just inside the area for the vital goal. The Shrimps, who were on the back foot for long periods went close to adding a second when Alan Goodall crashed a long-range shot against the crossbar in the first half.Stanley played some neat football, though, but we're made to rue a string of missed chances. The best one came in the dying moments of the game when Morecambe keeper Barry Roche could only parry a Sean McConville cross, yet substitute Adam Morgan somehow failed to covert the loose ball from six yards out.
