Hartlepool hit back at York
Hartlepool's perfect start to the season continued with a third straight victory following their 2-1 triumph at York City.Michael Woods' deflected winner secured the points for last season's Sky Bet League Two strugglers after Billy Paynter's third goal of the new campaign cancelled out Reece Thompson's opener for the Minstermen. An entertaining first half saw both keepers make excellent saves to keep their teams on level terms.York keeper Scott Flinders was quick off his line to deny Rakish Bingham, while Adam Bartlett thwarted home Vadaine Oliver and Dave Winfield with excellent stops.Oliver and Keith Lowe also saw headers cleared off the line by Jake Carroll and Michael Duckworth respectively and Winfield's eight-yard shot on the turn crashed against the crossbar as York peppered the visitors' goal. The Minstermen belatedly went ahead on 57 minutes when Thompson pounced from a matter of yards after Hartlepool failed to clear Luke Summerfield's low left-wing cross. But Paynter levelled in spectacular style on 71 minutes, curling into Flinders' top left-hand corner from 15 yards.Woods then wrapped up the win on 81 minutes from ten yards, although his miskicked effort might not have beaten Flinders had it not struck home midfielder James Berrett.
