Danny Philliskirk rescues late Blackpool point as Walsall miss chance to go top
A dramatic equaliser from Danny Philliskirk in the fourth minute of stoppage time earned Blackpool a 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Walsall at the Banks's Stadium.Blackpool were sharp and dangerous from kick-off and the lively Jack Redshaw cut inside to test Neil Etheridge with a low drive, while - two minutes later - the same player drew a brilliant tip-over save from Etheridge after full-back Hayden White broke clear and found him unmarked in the penalty box.Walsall were getting plenty of the ball but not managing to penetrate the visitors' solid defence and when Tom Bradshaw tried a shot on the turn from Romaine Sawyers' flick, the effort was blocked, and they finally took the lead in the 66th minute when Jason Demetriou turned in a low drive from Andy Taylor. But former Oldham striker Philliskirk, who joined Blackpool earlier this month, equalised late on as he drove the ball home when an edge-of-the-box free-kick by substitute and Uche Ikpeazu rebounded off the defensive wall into his path. The kick was awarded when Paul Downing tripped Mark Cullen when he looked likely to score. The hosts had dominated the second half but they could not get the extra goal they needed before Philliskirk struck and they missed the chance to go top of League One.
