Wolfsburg win to close gap on opponents Gladbach

Wolfsburg reduced the arrears on fifth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach to two points thanks to a 2-1 win over the Foals at the VW-Arena.Julian Draxler and Max Kruse put Dieter Hecking's men in command early on, but a spectacular Raffael effort reduced the arrears. Both sides created chances in an entertaining encounter, but the Wolves held on to get back into the race for a place in Europe next season.A strong spell of early Wolfsburg pressure was rewarded when they scored two goals in as many minutes.Draxler got the first on the quarter-hour mark when he finished comfortably after Monchengladbach failed to clear their lines from an Andre Schurrle cross.Kruse then turned Nico Elvedi left and right before cutting inside and picking his spot in the far corner of Yann Sommer's goal, forcing Gladbach to change their gameplan and start some attacks of their own.Only five minutes passed before they cut the Wolves' lead in half with Raffael sent deep by Fabian Johnson to steer the ball past Koen Casteels from a seemingly impossible angle. The roles reversed for a while with Wolfsburg on the back foot and forced to counter in their own home as Gladbach searched for an equaliser. The introduction of Patrick Herrmann gave Gladbach further impetus, but he was unable to help them get an equaliser before Luiz Gustavo flashed the last shot of the game wide at the other end.
