Wolfsburg v Hannover
VfL Wolfsburg 1-1 Hannover 96
Wolfsburg lost even more ground on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Lower Saxony rivals Hannover.Bas Dost gave the Wolves the lead just before half-time, but a spirited Hannover levelled through Hiroshi Kiyotake in the second half to halt a five-game losing streak and ease a little of the pressure on their coach Michael Frontzeck. The draw leaves Wolfsburg, regarded by many as the most serious challengers to Bayern this season, already nine points adrift of the record champions.Hannover were bidding to avoid a sixth straight defeat while Wolfsburg were keen to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, a 5-1 reverse at Bayern Munich on Tuesday, and it was the hosts who made the better start.Hannover appeared happy to sit back and soak up the pressure, which Wolfsburg were unable to build up, despite dominating the possession.Dieter Hecking's men appeared to lack ideas as they struggled to find a way through a horde of red shirts, but they succeeded at last in the 40th minute with Dost heading in unmarked from Daniel Caligiuri's cross.Wolfsburg continued to struggle to make any inroads in the second half and they conceded an equaliser in the 57th minute with arguably Hannover's first opening of the game.It was carved out by Manuel Schmiedebach, whose lofted ball over the top was taken down on his chest by Kiyotake, who instantly volleyed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. The goal gave more urgency to Wolfsburg's game, but the ideas were still lacking.Caligiuri's shot was turned over by Ron-Robert Zieler, who was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the closing stages, but managed to keep things tight to earn Hannover a precious point against their local rivals.ends
