Wolfsburg snatched a point from their trip to Cologne on Saturday with a late goal from Nicklas Bendtner earning them a 1-1 draw.

Simon Zoller had put the Goats in front, but Bendtner's leveller in the 83rd minute preserved Wolfsburg's unbeaten start to the season.

Kevin De Bruyne had a chance to win it for the Wolves but he was denied deep into stoppage time, with Cologne good value for their point.

De Bruyne was named in the Wolfsburg starting XI, in spite of the ongoing speculation about his future.

He did not seem to be too distracted either as he distributed balls from midfield trying to get his team-mates through, although the Cologne defence was proving difficult to break down.

Peter Stoger's men seemed to have their game plan spot on as they waited for Wolfsburg to commit too many men forwards, and a long ball from goalkeeper Timo Horn resulted in them taking the lead.

Zoller intelligently beat both Koen Casteels and Naldo to the ball, lifting it over the pair of them before heading into the unguarded goal.

Cologne gained confidence after taking the lead and they almost doubled their advantage when Anthony Modeste's shot was saved spectacularly by Casteels.

A deflected shot from Bas Dost brought a good save out of Horn as Wolfsburg reacted with the minutes ticking down.

They did not get their equaliser until just seven minutes from time, though, with Bendtner on hand to turn the loose ball in after Horn could only palm Daniel Caligiuri's cross out to him.

De Bruyne could have earned all three points for Wolfsburg in stoppage time but he was denied by Horn before Matthias Lehmann covered to block his follow-up effort.
