Sunil Chhetri hit a hat trick as Mumbai City FC thrashed NorthEast United FC 5-1 to move up to second in the Indian Super League table.

Chhetri opened the scoring for Mumbai City from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, before Boithang Haokip struck from a free kick four minutes later to level for the visitors.

Chhetri then scored either side of the break -- his third from the penalty spot again -- to complete his hat trick and give his side a two-goal advantage.

Sony Norde soon made it four for Mumbai City, before Frantz Bertin completed the scoring late on.

Chhetri's hat trick means he is the Indian Super League's leading scorer with six goals in four games, while Mumbai City have now recorded three successive victories following Wednesday's result.

Defeat for NorthEast United, meanwhile, leaves them just two points above bottom spot in the division.
