Walsall set up Dean Smith reunion after penalty win
Walsall won a penalty shoot-out 5-3 after extra-time following a goalless second-round replay with Chesterfield to earn a clash against their former manager Dean Smith at Brentford.Sadly for Chesterfield, skipper Sam Morsy was the only player to miss a spot-kick, firing over the crossbar when the Saddlers were 2-1 ahead, and defender Paul Downing hit the fifth penalty to clinch it for the home side.It had been a disappointing match with neither side offering much threat in front of goal, the closest Walsall came to winning it before the shoot-out was when substitute Kieron Morris hit the bar six minutes from the end of extra-time.Walsall began brightly and in the second minute Anthony Forde set up Romaine Sawyers for a fierce low drive which Spireites goalkeeper Tommy Lee did well to smother.Sawyers chipped neatly into the goalmouth but Jordan Cook could not reach it with his head and gradually Chesterfield settled and began to look dangerous going forward.Morsy fired high and wide in the 25th minute and Neil Etheridge comfortably held a header from Ian Evatt, who lunged forward to meet an Ollie Banks free-kick.
