Newport continue revival under Michael Flynn with win over Yeovil
Newport's revival under caretaker boss Michael Flynn continued with a 1-0 win over Yeovil at Rodney Parade.Mickey Demetriou's stunning second-half free-kick gave the Exiles a third consecutive win and they are now just a point from safety in Sky Bet League Two, having been 11 adrift when Flynn took over last month.Newport could have taken an early lead when stand-in-skipper David Pipe's punt upfield found Alex Samuel, but the Swansea loanee could not keep his shot down from close-range.It was then Yeovil's turn to threaten when Joe Day tipped Alex Lacey's header over the bar.Yeovil top scorer Francois Zoko looked dangerous and tested Day with a tame effort on 35 minutes before County forward Ryan Bird headed straight at John Maddison from a corner. The moment of magic from Demetriou came in the 57th minute when his superbly placed 20-yard free-kick beat Maddison. With Yeovil's minimal threat, Newport were unlucky not to double their lead through Samuel and Sean Rigg late on.Yeovil have now been dragged into the relegation battle after a run of just one win in 14 league games which leaves them four points ahead of Newport.
