Plymouth sitting pretty after Newport win
Plymouth extended their unbeaten run to 12 games as they beat 10-man Newport 3-1 at Rodney Parade to stay top of League Two.Graham Carey scored a brace of penalties for the visitors, with Jordan Slew adding the third late on.Jon Parkin had pulled County level with a superb strike from distance, but it was not enough for Graham Westley's men.Newport had made the better start to the opening half but their good work was undone in an instant in the 38th minute. An unfortunate bounce in the County area led to Slew going through one-on-one where he was bundled down by Day.Carey sent substitute goalkeeper and former Plymouth player James Bittner the wrong way and the visitors led at the break.Parkin levelled five minutes into the second half with a 30-yard wonder goal as the ball squeezed its way past Luke McCormick at the near post to give the spirited Exiles hope. But any prospect of an unlikely win faded five minutes later when Darren Jones brought down Carey, who converted the spot-kick, before Slew put the seal on the win 12 minutes from time with a tap in.
